A review meeting of the KP Transmission and Grid Company (KPT&GC) was chaired by Secretary of Energy & Power Mr. Nisar Ahmad Khan. Attendees included Special Secretary, Energy Department Mr. Tashfeen Haider, Advisor on Energy Eng. Tila Muhammad, Chief Executive KPT&GC Mr. Muhammad Ayub, and Senior Planning Officer Eng. Luqman Hakeem.
Chief Executive KPT&GC with over 40 years of experience in the field and former Managing Director of NTDC, is driving these initiatives. His extensive background in energy management makes him a valuable asset in enhancing and establishing an integrated system to deliver cheaper energy through hydropower stations in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
To enhance the efficiency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s electricity transmission system, several projects have been initiated to expand KPT&GC’s infrastructure and administrative capabilities. This newly established company, plans to utilize local resources to lay new transmission lines. This initiative aims to provide affordable hydropower to the industrial sector at cheaper rates.
Additionally, there are plans to distribute hydropower generated from rivers in the Chitral/Dir, Kohistan, Swat, and Mansehra regions to industrial consumers through a modern distribution system. The industrial areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are not flourishing as required, with only 1% or 2% of the energy demand being utilized for industrial purposes due to the prevailing high tariffs. To address this, KPT&GC is developing an integrated plan to supply cheaper hydropower to the industry, aiming to boost industrial growth and integrate these areas into the economic corridor. Furthermore, KPT&GC is also planning to prepare its own Integrated Generation Capacity Expansion and Transmission Investment Plan for the province.
In the end, CEO Ayub emphasized the urgency of securing funds to commence work immediately on a war footing basis.
